What to Expect at Your First Studio Physique Workout
Walking into a new fitness studio for the first time can feel exciting—and a little intimidating. You might be wondering what to wear, what to bring, whether you’ll be able to keep up, or if you’re even in good enough shape to start.
The good news? Almost every Studio Physique member had those same questions before their first class.
Whether you’re joining us for one of our signature low-impact strength workouts or a VersaClimber cardio class, our award-winning instructors are there to guide you every step of the way. Our classes are designed for a wide range of fitness levels, and every exercise can be modified to match your experience and ability.
This guide will show you exactly what to expect—from what to wear and bring to what happens when you walk through our doors—so you can arrive feeling confident and ready for a great workout.
What Should I Wear?
The right clothing makes your workout more comfortable and effective. At Studio Physique, classes involve stretching, strength training, and core-focused exercises, so choose gear that lets you move freely. Most members wear leggings, shorts, athletic tops, or moisture-wicking workout apparel. You’ll also want to wear grip socks, which help provide stability and traction during class.
Avoid clothing that’s overly loose or bulky, as fitted athletic wear allows your instructor to better see your alignment and provide coaching when needed.
- Form-fitting activewear – Leggings, shorts, or fitted pants that won’t get caught in equipment. A supportive top is essential for comfort in high-intensity Lagree sessions.
- Moisture-wicking fabrics – Classes can get intense. Fabrics that wick away sweat help you stay cool and comfortable.
- Grip socks or training shoes – Many pilates and Lagree classes use grip socks for stability. Studio Physique requires grip socks on the Megas for safety and sanitary purposes. A variety of socks are available for purchase at The Studio for $5 off at your First Class, should you need to purchase. For SP VersaClimber sessions, grip socks or lightweight athletic shoes work perfectly.
- Layering options – A light jacket or long-sleeve top for warming up or cooling down, especially in our air-conditioned studio, is a great option.
What Should I Bring?
There’s no need to pack a gym bag full of equipment.
For your first class, simply bring:
- A water bottle
- Grip socks
- A small towel if you’d like one
- A positive attitude and willingness to try something new
We provide everything else you’ll need.
Am I Fit Enough to Take a Class?
Absolutely.
One of the biggest misconceptions about Studio Physique is that you have to already be in great shape before you start.
You don’t.
Our classes welcome beginners, experienced exercisers, former athletes, and people returning to fitness after months—or even years—away from exercise.
Your instructor will demonstrate every movement and offer modifications whenever they’re needed.
The goal isn’t to keep up with everyone else.
The goal is simply to do your best.
Will I Be the Only Beginner?
Probably not.
Every week we welcome people trying Studio Physique for the very first time.
Our community is known for being supportive, encouraging, and welcoming. Everyone remembers what their first class felt like, so you’ll never be expected to know everything from day one.
What Happens When I Arrive?
Plan to arrive about 10–15 minutes before class begins.
This gives you time to:
- Check in at the front desk
- Meet your instructor
- Learn how the equipment works
- Ask any questions before class starts
- Get comfortable with the studio
Your instructor will explain everything you need to know before class begins, so there’s no pressure to figure things out on your own.
What Should I Expect During Class?
Expect a full-body workout that combines strength, endurance, balance, and core training.
Unlike traditional gym workouts that rely on speed or heavy weights, Studio Physique classes focus on slow, controlled movement and continuous muscle engagement.
The workout is challenging—but it’s also low-impact, making it easier on your joints while still delivering an incredible workout.
Don’t be surprised if your muscles begin to shake during certain exercises.
That’s completely normal.
It simply means your muscles are working hard.
If you’d like to learn more about why that happens, read our article on The Lagree Shake.
Can I Modify the Exercises?
Yes.
Every exercise can be adjusted based on your fitness level, mobility, or previous injuries.
Whether you’re an experienced athlete or just getting back into exercise, our instructors will help you find the right level of challenge.
You should never feel pressured to perform an exercise that doesn’t feel right for your body.
Will I Be Sore?
Most first-time members experience some muscle soreness the following day.
That’s completely normal.
Because Studio Physique activates muscles in ways many traditional workouts don’t, it’s common to discover muscles you didn’t even realize you had.
The soreness usually fades within a day or two, and many members find their recovery improves quickly after just a few classes.
What If I Can’t Finish Every Exercise?
That’s okay.
Nobody finishes every class perfectly.
Everyone takes breaks.
Everyone modifies exercises from time to time.
Everyone started somewhere.
Progress—not perfection—is what matters.

Do I need to be in shape before I start?
No. Studio Physique welcomes all fitness levels, and every exercise can be modified.
What if I’ve never done this type of workout before?
That’s perfectly normal. Many members have no prior experience, and instructors guide you throughout the entire class.
Is the workout hard?
It can be challenging, but it’s designed to challenge your body—not anyone else’s. You control the pace, and modifications are always available.
Do I need to bring anything besides water?
Just wear comfortable workout clothes and grip socks. If you don’t have grip socks yet, they’re available at the studio.
