Move of the Month: Mega Lats Pulldown

Warmer weather means it’s time to show off those muscles you’ve been working so hard on all spring. This month at Studio Physique, we’re all about strengthening and lengthening those gorgeous backs, arms and shoulders. Hellooooo tank top season!

Meg Lats Pull Down

  1. Start on one blue spring. Add a yellow for extra resistance, or drop down to a black and two yellows to really focus on your form.
  2. Grab the red cables and lie down on your stomach with your feet facing the front of the machine.
  3. Use your back, shoulders and lats to pull your elbows towards your ribs as you draw the cables to your shoulders.
  4. Slowly extend arms back out, keeping tension built the entire time.
  5. Use your core to keep your spine stable and think pulling from your back- not your neck.
  6. Repeat for 60 to 90 seconds
  7. Quick, get to the beach before the vacationers take up all spots! And don’t forget to show off those sexy lats!

Did you know?

“Lat” is short for latissimus dorsi, which is a large, flat muscle that starts at the base of the spine, wraps around the side of the torso, and connects to the upper arm. They are the largest and most prominent back muscles, and they contribute greatly to the “V-taper” look that is so aesthetically pleasing.

The best lat exercises are pulling movements that heavily involve (but don’t necessarily isolate) the lats, and that allow you to safely move heavy loads and best improve your strength.
