Eat, Drink and be Merry with these Lower-Calorie Holiday Cocktails!


The Holidays are a magical time. Toasts with friends and family and warm, cozy nights spent sipping cocktails by the fireplace. Impress your guests this year with these delicious cocktails that will look great, taste even better, and won’t effect all the hard work you’ve been putting in on the Megaformer!

Passion Fruit Cocktail


This tropical inspired drink is packed with fiber and antioxidants! Stick with Brut Champagne for the lightest version of this cocktail.

Ingredients

4 ounces passion fruit puree
1.5 ounce (a shot) St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
10 ounces brut Champagne
Raspberries, for garnish

Preparation

  1. Divide passion fruit and St-Germain into 2 chilled fluted glasses. Top with Champagne. Garnish with a few raspberries.

 

Lower Calorie Sangria


We love this one because the sweetness comes from fresh fruit and natural, raw honey.

Ingredients

1 cup organic cranberries

juice from 1 Orange

2 tablespoons raw honey

1 Orange, sliced into thin circles and moons

1 pomegranate, seeds only

2 small persimmons, seeded and thinly sliced

1 bottle pomegranate wine

½ cup rum

5 cups Cranberry Juice, no sugar added

1 bottle sparkling water

Preparation 

In a medium saucepan heat the cranberries, orange juice, and raw honey to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes until cranberries burst. Remove from heat and place in refrigerator for 30 minutes, until chilled. (Very important to make sure the cranberries are fully chilled!)

Place all of the ingredients into a pitcher. Chill for at least one hour. Serve and enjoy!


Ginger Hot Toddy

 


This classic gets a holiday makeover with cider instead of water.

Old Irish trick; sip this drink if you feel a little under the weather

Ingredients

Per Mug

2 cups apple cider- warmed

1 bag of tea flavor of choice

1 tbsp honey

1/8 tsp ginger

Slice of lemon

1 cinnamon stick

1 shot Brandy Whiskey, Rum of Bourbon **Optional

Instructions

Warm your cider in your mug. Steep your tea bag in cider for 3-5 minutes. Add in honey & ginger & stir with your cinnamon stick. Leave cinnamon stick in mug. Add shot of desired spirits (optional). Top with lemon slice.


Rosemary Gin Fizz


A fresh, creative cocktail that only takes a few minutes to prepare!

 

INGREDIENTS

3 one-inch sprigs of fresh rosemary

1 small lemon, juiced

½ teaspoon honey

1 ½ ounces gin

3 ounces club soda

Preparation 

 In a small drinking glass, muddle the fresh rosemary, lemon juice and honey Fill the glass with ice, then pour in the gin and top with club soda. Give it a little swirl with a spoon. That’s it!


Holiday Spiked EggNog


Dairy Free and sure to please a crowd!

 

Ingredients

3 cups lactose free eggnog

1/2 cup amaretto liquor

1/4 cup white rum

dash of ground nutmeg or cinnamon on top

 

Instructions

Pour eggnog, amaretto liquor and white rum into a pitcher. Using a wooden spoon, stir to mix everything together. Pour 1/2 – 3/4 cup per serving. Garnish with cinnamon stick and a dash of nutmeg or cinnamon. Serve.


If you want to stick to some simpler drinks this holiday season remember these “Fit Drinking Tips” from Studio Physique:

  1. Drink dry, red wines over sweet white wines.
  2. Always opt for a Brut Champagne for less sugar.
  3. Drink 1-2 glasses of water between drinks to curb hangover symptoms 
  4. Ask for your favorite liquor and add fresh squeezed lime juice or soda water to keep your calories low.
