Craving A Routine? Make Working out Work for You
Five Tips for Getting Back into Your Workout Routine
Can I just start by saying, WHERE did the summer go!? I hope everyone had an amazing couple of months filled with family, friends and lots of good beach time.
School is officially back in session and so are our routines. I don’t know about you, but as much as I LOVE the freedom and possibilities of the summer, I crave a routine. It’s ok if you took a break from working out. Life happens. Here’s how to start up your fitness routine after taking a break.
1. Start with something low impact
Overdoing it right away can set you up for fatigue. Or worse- INJURY! Experts recommend beginning with something low impact. Hop on the Megaformer for a high-intensity, yet joint friendly workout. Your muscles will thank you.
2. Define your WHY
While your jeans fitting a little too tight might be an incentive to get you into a class, it’s NOT going to be enough to keep you there. Even though YES, your ass is bound to look amazing, your “why” has to go a little bit deeper than losing a few pounds. Find out what motivates and inspires you. We asked a few of our favorite fitness experts about their “Why” and this is what they said:
“To feel energized and alert the rest of the day”
“Taking that one precious hour of me-time keeps me sane”
“Being disciplined in one area of my life leads to changes in all other areas”
“That post-workout endorphin rush!”
“So I can keep up with my kids”
3. New workout gear never hurt nobody!
We don’t know about you, but there’s one thing that’s sure to get us out of bed and into a workout class and that is a fresh new pair of yoga pants! Incentives such as new workout clothing or rewards help program the brain into associating exercise with something positive. So if simple motivation isn’t enough for you, try rewarding yourself with some new gear!
4. Fuel up.
Whatever led to you falling off your workout routine, may have caused you to fall off your healthy diet too. We totally get it, this summer was filled with sunset ice creams and cocktails by the beach for us too ;)!
The founder of Bulletproof Coffee once said “There are foods that you eat that make you feel bad. There are foods that you eat that make you feel nothing. And there are foods that you eat that make you feel great. Eat more of the food that makes you feel great.” We love this quote. Experiment with foods that make your body feel good and help power you through your workout.
5. Find a buddy
When you choose to exercise alone, you can always cancel on yourself. If you know someone else is waiting for you at Studio Physique it becomes almost impossible to make excuses. Enlist in an “accountabilibuddy” and hold each other accountable!
